Definitely remember the hype and coming off of The Sims it seemed anything was possible. But then it wasn't much more than a DOS game I played called Evolution (1983 - Sydney Development Corp.)
They will have success but that fanbase is aging. In the end, it will be too much to watch markets with 5x or 10x the players and say nah we'll just try to convince the next gen to buy this dedicated hardware. I actually think they'll embrace iOS and Android eventually.

Nintendo's advantage will slowly erode. It's going to take time but multiplatform games will invade and eventually someone will crack the handheld nut. I'm not saying these early models are it, but it will happen. It hurts to say it but a lot of Nintendo nostalgia comes with some grey hair.
