Overall I would say it’s the weakest Edgar Wright film since WORLDS END. It was fun without having his usual style or flair. Lots of fun King references but if you’re going to have it last 18 days just keep the King fans happy and make it 19!

Running Man (2025)
Adaption: ⭐️⭐️⭐️✨
Movie:⭐️⭐️⭐️✨

Was really enjoying the first 2/3’s of this but it lost me when it briefly became HOME ALONE. From there it lost steam & even though I knew they wouldn’t do the ending of the book I was hoping they would keep the anger & rawness but the ending fell flat.

This was one of my favorite animated shows. Still endlessly quote it to people who have no idea what I’m talking about. I think ‘Heroes’ was my favorite - Roofpig! Unexpected!

Never Flinch by Stephen King
⭐️⭐️⭐️

This is an ok story but not great. The surrogate jury killings plot is probably the stuff that works the best. Really didn’t care much for the Barbara stuff & found myself getting frustrated by the constant shoehorning the word ’flinched’ into the story.

Charlie the Choo Choo by Beryl Evans (@stephenking.bsky.social )
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This is the real life version of the book that features in The Dark Tower. It is a fun read, that reads like a normal kids book but with images that add the creepy factor.

Hansel & Gretel by @stephenking.bsky.social & Maurice Sendak
⭐️⭐️⭐️✨

Fun retelling of Hansel & Gretel with images that take me back to my childhood. The highlight was him using Rhea of the Coos from The Dark Tower series as the witch in the story. Fun little nod to fans.

Currently reading this for the first time. It’s sooo eerie & creepy. A couple of nights ago I even started dreaming of The Deptford.

On Writing by @stephenking.bsky.social
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Short book that starts off as a short non exhaustive autobiography & then proceeds to discuss Kings various ideas about the craft of writing. Lots of great info, well explained & leaves you thinking maybe you could do it.

Rose Red (2002)
Movie:⭐️⭐️

Kings love of Shirley Jackson isn’t a secret but this is his most obvious homage to Jackson’s Hill House. The story isn’t terrible but unfortunately the acting is horrendous & the effects have aged badly.

After also seeing Stand by Me & Dolores Claiborne last weekend today I got to see @mikeflanaganfilm.com Life of Chuck again on the big screen thanks to the Focus on King screenings at ACMI. This is my 3rd time seeing it on the big screen & love it more each time. Easily my favorite film of the year.

It’s even better on the big screen. The casting is spot on and the direcing is perfect. The staging is all great with the flaming car chase the highlight of a lot of highlights.
Seeing a film you have never seen on the big screen that's just about the finest thing in the world, 'cept maybe for….

Saw Carrie last night which was fun but it has dated a little. Some scenes got laughs where they probably shouldn’t have but despite this it was still good seeing it with an audience.

Tonight though I saw Christine which I already loved but it was the first time seeing it on the big screen.

Danse Macabre by @stephenking.bsky.social
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I had never read those before so this is one of the few that isn’t a reread. I was really loving it to begin with but felt it went a little long. I would actually like a new version of it going through the past 40 years not just an updated essay.

You Like it Darker by @stephenking.bsky.social

I really enjoyed this collection with the highlight being Danny Coughlin’s Bad Dream. I could have read a full novel of those 2 characters. Rattlesnakes (the Cujo sequel) is also very creepy. Probably the least enjoyable was The Turbulence Expert.
