I’m a wife, a mom, a cat and dog person, a humanist, a lover of neuroscience and geology, hopeful future homesteader with an eye to our likely societal collapse and the better society we can build back after for our children, recently diagnosed MSer.
Yes! I’m not a veteran, I’m super leftist and have my own issues with the institution of the military (mostly how the rich use them as pawns), but my god if someone is willing to put their life on the line for their country, then they and their family should never have to worry about food.

I don’t think it’s his background…I think it’s that they realize that he could actually make real change happen, and they’re terrified that their donor-supported towers will come crashing down if the people are given real hope.

This is a great time to talk about how much more we could do if we drop the means testing and free up SNAP and TANF staff to focus on making sure everyone has enough food.

Oh someone might get “too many” food stamps? Do you hear yourself? Touch grass. We can talk about that after everyone is fed.

Yes!!! I’m just trying to keep my kids safe. I moved my family to Canada to keep my kids safe, and my parents get mad that we won’t come visit them (they’re welcome to visit us). I’m sorry, I’m not bringing my children into a war zone.

There is unimaginable wealth in this world. That anyone would have to go without housing, food, medical care, and other basic needs is unconscionable. No one will ever convince me we “can’t afford it”. They just think they deserve it more because they mistake privilege for providence.

I was worried about this meeting but now I think this is going to harden the military leaders against this administration so much more—how insulting.

I saw the comment before I saw it was from you, and thought “how could they possibly find someone as good as Levar Burton for this?” Then I saw it was you and legit cried with happiness! Mychal and Reading Rainbow—the perfect combo!!!

This is the absolute best take I’ve seen (sorry not sure how to link it so I took a pic)

Exactly. I would have sympathy for the death of someone who had wildly different policy views, but Kirk was a bigot, a Nazi, and used his platform to do significant harm to vulnerable people. He deserves nothing.

Saying he was just sharing his opinion is like when bigots complain that their intolerant views aren’t tolerated. You broke the social contract, bro. You don’t get the respect that those who follow it do.

It’s not about his views, it’s about what his rhetoric and hate-spewing has caused. His words are not without consequence. His vitriol has caused real harm in this world, probably many deaths, and if he died as a consequence of that, so be it. He didn’t have a different opinion. He spewed evil.

Everyone has the opportunity to make the world a better place. Some by the things they do, others when they leave.
