At the tips of the columns, you can see knots of dense material resisting the erosion caused by radiation—these are areas where new stars are forming. The glow and the jets are created by the newborn stars within, which are emitting bursts of energy.

Towering columns of interstellar gas and dust that resemble mountains, but they’re actually several light-years tall. The pillars are filled with young stars in the process of forming, and they are being shaped by the intense radiation and stellar winds from nearby, massive stars.

Looks like a perfect smoke ring floating in space, but it's actually a planetary nebula formed by a dying star. If you could travel there, you'd find it's not solid at all - it’s an illusion created by glowing gas expanding, and the ring's vibrant colors come from different types of ionized gas.
