Unadulterated Red Sox Takes
Lots of fans are getting mad at this, but it’s not like Triston Casas is a gold glove 1B. If Breslow had pulled off a Casas trade in the offseason like he wanted, then Raffy would have been the 1B. The team could have just as easily made Casas the DH and had Raffy become the 1B.
Rafael Devers mostly didn't want to talk about the past today but he did offer this. He said if the Red Sox had asked him to play first at the beginning of Spring Training, he would have.

Sam Kennedy ducked the question last night, but I can’t help but feel like FSG has regretted the Devers extension the moment they signed it. John Henry only did it because he got booed at the Winter Classic and watched the Bruins destroy his Penguins in his home ballpark as fans cheered his failure.

This is an incredible article by Joon Lee and hits home a major reason why the Devers trade feels so devastating. Sports have always been just as much if not more about the community aspects rather than the business. And every year fans feel like they are being alienated more and more from that.
Sports was one of America's most accessible forms of entertainment. Now it's paywalled, splintered and sold to the highest bidder.

Fandom isn't being nurtured. It's being mined.

The messaging around firing Chaim and hiring Breslow was that even though he had a background in analytics like Chaim, Breslow had a better perspective of the players because of his career. He had been in championship locker rooms and knew the human element of the game.

Great note from @gfstarr1.bsky.social over on twitter. This is the 8th time this season that a Red Sox starter has exited a start before completing 5 innings with their pitch count under 90 and no more than 2 runs allowed.

7 of these 8 games have come since May 8.

6 of them have come since May 19.

The Campbell centerfield experiment is so stupid and a waste of time. The dude is struggling mightily and they keep throwing extra stuff on his plate. If you want to give Rafaela an off day then play Refsnyder (or call up Anthony).

Once again, I’m not surprised by Devers’ quotes today. The front office totally botched their relationship with their best player. Can’t blame Raffy for Breslow’s bad messaging.
Raffy being pissed off today about a possible position change doesn’t surprise me. Everyone thought all offseason, “Just move him to DH.” I brought up two months ago that the player has to be willing to do that for it to work.
2. I also don’t think just saying he’s the DH now is that easy either. We just watched Masa last year struggle to be a full time DH. The change in routine is something that veterans haven’t seemed to adjust well too. Sox fans think it’s easy because of JD and Papi, but those guys embraced the role.

Roman is clearly ready for the show. This is why I was clamoring all offseason for he and Campbell to start the year with the big league club. For some reason they were all in on Campbell and not Anthony coming out of spring. He’s going to make you look foolish when he wins ROY and you miss the PPI.
🚨ROMAN ANTHONY GRAND SLAM🚨

106.7 EV - 350 ft to LF

Anthony is 2-3, 2 R, 2 HR, 5 RBI

It’s the 3rd inning.

Honestly, this is perfectly done by Breslow and the FO. Get him on the opening day roster, give him his long term extension, recoup the PPI pick when he wins ROY. 7.5 AAV is great value too. Between this and Crochet yesterday not much more you could ask for. Now let’s win some ball games!
Kristian Campbell has played five games in the big leagues. The Red Sox are now looking at him as a centerpiece for potentially the next decade. The story with details of his eight-year, $60 million deal that includes a pair of team options: www.bostonglobe.com/2025/04/02/s...

Turner seems like a really solid option for this team. Provides a RHH to balance the lineup and leadership for the young guys. He hasn’t fallen off yet, as Stats shows. He can play some 1B, which no one but Casas and kind of Romy can do. Lastly, he and his family fully embraced the city of Boston.
February 11, 2025 at 3:46 PM
I was always a bit surprised with how slow Alonso’s market was that the Sox were never linked to him. It wouldn’t have been a perfect fit, but he definitely is an upgrade in the RHH department and would have gone nuts at Fenway. They are begging Bregman to take a short term deal, which this is.
February 6, 2025 at 4:04 AM
The hot new take I’ve seen picking up steam around twitter is that if we sign Bregman, Campbell can just play left. If that’s the case, where is ROMAN ANTHONY going to play? You know, the guy who is actually an outfielder!
January 22, 2025 at 5:07 PM
The more I think about it, the more I like Ha-Seong Kim’s fit with this team. Him not being ready for the start of the year is a positive to me because it lets you start Campbell right away. If he struggles, or Story gets hurt again, then Kim is a MLB proven option once his shoulder has healed.
January 12, 2025 at 7:01 PM
I don’t understand why the majority of Red Sox Nation is so against Campbell and Anthony starting with the big league team right away. The team has been telling us for multiple years, “Just wait for the next core. These prospects will blow you away.” This is what the down years were for.
January 3, 2025 at 10:29 PM
Good look ahead towards the 2025 Red Sox here. One prediction Jen brings up in this piece is Story staying healthy for a majority of the season, which would go along way towards assuaging Sox fans fears about this team.

I couldn’t agree with Ed more. This whole “rumor” of wanting to move Raffy off of 3rd is so dumb and unserious for a multitude of reasons…. (🧵)
I don't actually hate Arenado but not if it means trading Casas. I just don't think moving Devers off third is as urgent as others do. He's fine when he has a good defensive shortstop. Waste of resources.

This is good news for the Red Sox. Criswell was a very good back end option last year. Having the 4th option lets the Sox add him to Priester, Fitts, and Dobbins as AAA depth/spot start options.
November 19, 2024 at 8:18 PM
Lou Merloni brought this up during the most recent S10 pod too. As much as Sox fans seem to want Fried, Snell’s stuff matches up much better with what Breslow and company seem to value in pitchers.

With the Justin Wilson signing, the Sox 40 man roster is full again. It will be interesting to see how the back end is churned this winter.

Side note; Bryan Mata is tied with Connor Wong for the third longest tenured player on the 40 man roster 🤯.

Sox fans need to give Colin Barnicle major credit if things go right this offseason. He’s the only guy who has gotten John Henry to remember how fun it was to matter.
Getting vibe that the Red Sox are approaching Juan Soto situation with the kind of intent we haven't seen in some time from them
