it is depressing to think that it has more of a niche in singles
where the rocks weakness hurts (even spikes cost it a turn of health)
where you can’t set up the sun and attack on the same turn
where the solar power health cost matters more because battles are longer

if you look at current chi-yu usage, like 90% are with koraidon
and of the remainder, like ~50% have a sunny day whimsicott
more than there are groudon
which is honestly distressing

when whimsicott isn’t the best sun option

then mega houndoom can cook
this is potential mon
also the +40 def 😭

it doesn’t have a-tales’ speed tier or aurora veil or 10% freeze chances on both targets for free with its one attacking move
no fake out/tailwind/screens/trick room/follow me/spore/etc
there’s a reason sunny day whimsicott gets used waaay more often in vgc

if they introduce a good sun setter that doesn’t want trick room (not torkoal), can play in non-restricted formats (not groudon/koraidon), and isn’t also a mega (not zard-y) then mega houndoom might be onto something
cuz ninetales… snarl wisp encore helping hand healing wish… and that’s basically it

solar power is so awesome it makes you go look at drought users and realize the best one by a country mile is zard-y
