This isn't very meaningful for a guy his age. I'm old, and I bruise just like that, in exactly that area, from the smallest bumps. In my case, a lot of sun in my youth has caused a collagen loss. He could be on blood thinners or, as a golfer, this is sun damage. I wouldn't get hopes up for this.
