Lurking but never posting, like some great unseen beast dwelling in the hadal depths; gliding through the silt-clouded murk in an endless search for scraps of content to consume.
Kroger is the grocery store I go to when I want premade sushi that tastes exactly like the premade sushi at the Newark airport that gave me food poisoning that one time. (Also this map is HEB erasure.)

The UK saw the way the world was headed, knew what natural resources would be needed for national survival, and immediately began colonizing the podcast network with the largest proven machete reserves in the world.

Christ. I don't understand why people are so het up about this. The correct response to "Why did you make an Extra Thick mod for Isabelle Animal Crossing?" is "Because I'm a freak who's horny for the dog lady." It's fine! I want the beefier pilot from Swat Katz to rawdog me! We're all freaks here!

Well the Gift of Perfect Knowledge didn't work for that guy, but I'm sure I can put it to better use!

*five minutes later*

The tech industry isn't "out of ideas", it's just out of low hanging fruit.

In the same way, mainstream political discourse isn't "out of ideas", it's just run out of ideas to fix things that don't alienate the donors or piss off hegemonic culture power.

To quote Stephen Jay Gould: "I am, somehow, less interested in the weight and convolutions of Einstein’s brain than in the near certainty that people of equal talent have lived and died in cotton fields and sweatshops."

Traffic lights are the authoritarian socialist big government state intervention! Roundabouts are the most libertarian of traffic solutions! The free market demands competition between ideas and motor vehicles!

Illinois SNAP spending is ~$370 million a month. Pritzker is worth ~$3.9 billion. This one fucking guy could fund the entire state's SNAP program - nearly 1.9 million people - for the next 10 months and still have $200 million dollars to live on.

Preferring a familiar misery to a risky hope.

I get it, I've been there, it took me years and a good SSRI to get out, so I have some sympathy for the feeling.

I have NO sympathy for pretending hopelessness is ideological purity. That's not virtue, it's an unhealthy coping mechanism.

I need you you to email this to Star Pizza - the one over in Montrose - so I can drive down there and eat like six of them.

Right up there with:

Challenger: *Demonstrates their fighting prowess via a complicated and artful display of skill - a sword dance, a series of martial arts forms, an incantation with glowing magical runes, etc.*

Opponent: *Pulls out a gun and shoots them.*

Comically over-the-top grimdark RTS with MOBA elements set in the hells. Call it "Bloodwar: Avernus", really lean in to the 90's edgyness. C&C RA2 style pixel graphics. Two singleplayer campaigns - devils and demons. All cutscenes are FMVs in 360p. Tim Curry plays Asmodeus.

Kindle says 388, including the 7 uses in the afterword, which honestly seems kind of low to me.

It's what I think of as a "smoke about it" game - as in, my wife or I will finish it, turn to the other of us, and say "...let's have a smoke about it." and then we'll spend 2+ hours unpacking it together on the patio.

Breaking my no posting rule to recommend 1000xResist! If you don't mind a "Narrative Adventure Game" that's almost exclusively "Narrative", it's a profoundly good meditation on family, self, grief, and inherited trauma that straight up made me cry more than once.
