Through three experiments, we concluded that the magnitude of haptic size adaptation aftereffects is comparable between younger and older people. Our findings suggest that similar perceptual and neural mechanisms underlie haptic size perception in younger and older people.

We focused on the haptic size adaptation aftereffects: adaptation to a large/small object in each hand alters the subsequent perceived size of tested objects on the hands as smaller/larger than their actual size.

Based on evidence suggesting a reduction in hemispheric asymmetry in older adults, we investigated a possible aging effect on haptic size perception using the perceptual adaptation aftereffect.
