Trust dynamics come into play: If democrats have been associated with negative events for you for four decades, trade deals benefitting the wealthy 1%, warmongering, etc. You're just not going to trust them again. And then you have the active spin factories running 24/7.

I just don’t think voters’ personal responsibilities have that much weight, when dems made a conscious and repeated choice to offer so little, and to their own base. And if some voters are ignorant or irrational, that’s something any party should know to be prepared for
