Hiroshima, the one-legged torii gate, Nagasaki, art from the Nagasaki Prefectural Museum. Notice the screen with the peacock. It is silk embroidery! They had many beautiful paintings by Ricardo Baroja and Picasso, that I was not permitted to photograph.

Arrived in Hiroshima. Dinner at a neighborhood pub, the people were so kind and the food delicious. Then…a walk to Peace Park. It was cold and the crows had a lot to say. I felt admonished. It’s difficult to describe the feelings of shame, sadness, and fear that swept over me.

Hike on Yuge Island. Best part was visiting Shimadecafe, where we met Tomi and her beautiful mother, & we’re reunited with Chise, whom we had met on the ferry earlier. These women worked together to try to help me find a pouch I had lost. No luck, but I made 3 friends & had the most delicious lunch.

We had a a great walk on Hakata-jima. The dried plants in front of the bamboo turn out to be Canadian goldenrod.

Scenes from Imabari Castle

From the trains: Humans on the platforms.

These were all taken from the train on our way to Imabari today. No filters or editing. I think the glass on the train windows contributed to blueness. That’s how it looked and I want to keep them that way.

This is my new knitting friend, Mami, modeling the violet scarf by Miknits. After visiting with Mami, Frank and I enjoyed an hour at the Hyotan Onsen-the second photo is of the “Retro” bath, one of the oldest at that facility.

Oita from the museum.

Today we visited the Oita Museum. This sculpture: Stone Scape, is my favorite, but I was so close to deleting this photograph because of the blur around the woman’s head. Sometimes, the photography gods do better for you. Consider it a halo bestowed after her ascent from the path in the background.
