happy new year's eve. out with the old, in with the new. some of the wood logs burning this year are termite-ridden door frames from my grandfather's house, which makes them at least 100 years old.
A wood fire is burning in the middle distance. The glare illuminates the door, behind which my grandfather sits and my father stands. Their back is to the picture. They have seen fires like this every year since they were children.

hanks of dark blue indigo yarn hang from a wooden pole as they dry. in the background, there are other poles that have turned blue due to indigo. it is impossible to convey in visual or textual format the shade that this is. only touch and smell can do that.

eternally wondering who gives a shit. why speak of the importance of natural colour on organic material on a digital platform. how can you touch handspun anything through a glass panel. what alienation can be bridged through the kingdom of looking.

sometimes i wonder whether the whole primary colour thing is a lie because there are so few colours that are naturally dyed on cotton that can mix to create new, beautiful ones.

but indigo blue and anar yellow make indigo green.
I am holding two hanks of cotton yarn in my hand. The one on the left is indigo green. The one on the right is pomegranate yellow. in the background you can see my feet, along with the feet of the dyers.
