It’s not about paying the money. They’re willing to pay $. They aren’t willing to put it in a general pool of taxes where they don’t get to extract specific favors for the money that they’re contributing. They don’t mind giving up the money when they can use it as a tool to get what they need.

The City of Chicago is making this happen also. Granting the right to make spaces private was a key action. There are generations of immigrants in Chicago who remember why their families came here. Remember when we said “they hate us for our freedom”? The call is now coming from inside the house.
