If I understand correctly, LLMs like Llama trained on copies of content without author permission then DeepSeek trained on copies of Llama without Meta's permission. Like an IP theft Ponzi scheme.

Like AlphaGo generating new Go strategy by training again itself? How does DeepSeek know what output to reinforce?

Capes. Everyone looks good in a cape.

So much of what I want for my kids in this life is just the simple joys of falling in love with a a thought, of arguing with a friend over a book, that feeling when a challenging notion starts to win you over

Once in a crowded London bathroom without benefit of dividers some guy shoved up next to me and started pissing into urinal. It felt surprising but not deliberately transgressive, motivated by drunken urgency rather than malice.

The UK has superior floor-to-ceiling toilet cubicles but inferior urinals without dividers. Someone should write a sociology paper.

I think you're talking about federal spending. The Canadian federal government spends $15.3 billion / 38.25 million people = $401 per capita. Provinces spend $217 billion / 328.25 million = $5677.68 per capita. I'm talking about the total cost of socialised medicine, not just federal costs.

I'm a UK Taxpayer. About 80% of the NHS is funded via general taxation, 18% from national insurance. There's no line on my tax statement saying how much I personally paid toward public health but £182bn / 67m people = £2703 per capita.

In 2012 Canadian taxpayers paid $4037 for universal health care and spent $1726 on private care. US taxpayers spent $4153 for non-universal health care (medicare, medicaid, Federal employees) and $4692 on private care. I can't find more recent data.

Regular reminder that US taxpayers spend more per capita on socialised medicine (Medicare, Medicaid, healthcare for federal employees) than British taxpayers spend on universal healthcare.

My mistake. I didn't see it here, thought we didn't have it.
