1869 – Arabella Mansfield is granted admission to practice law in Iowa, making her the first woman lawyer. Ada H. Kepley becomes the first woman in the United States to graduate from law school.

Married Women's Property Acts passed starting in 1848, allowing women to own property, keep their earnings, and control their financial assets. However, full financial independence and equal access to credit didn't fully come into place until the Equal Credit Opportunity Act of 1974.

On the night of April 26, 1777, 16-year-old Sybil Ludington rode nearly 40 miles to warn some 400 militiamen that the British troops were coming. Like the ride of Paul Revere, Ludington's message helped Patriot leaders prepare for battle. Though she rode 2xs longer than Revere to carry her warning.

July 7, 1981: Sandra Day O’Connor is sworn in as the first woman to serve on the U.S. Supreme Court, after being nominated by President Ronald Reagan. She retires in 2006, after serving for 24 years.
