Would it help to find the manual on line for that name and brand, there might be pictures and steps how to thread things properly. Sometimes using a sewing machine oil to lubricate moving parts can help, and be sure the bobbin is in the correct way.

They also do the light gravel and tar over a road that had been seam sealed for many miles. Then the stones broke many windshields, not sure who paid for that, and now a year later the plows have taken the gravel off from the seams and it is bumpy again!
