The politics of exposure is like taking a well-trod path in the aftermath of political violence. It is familiar, even comforting; it takes us to a place where we see terror and suffering, victims and perpetrators, and it satisfies our desire to unveil hidden actors and conspiracies with the clarity of anger and moral outrage. And yet this comforting attitude may not be adequate to our present moment because far-right movements across the world are based on forms of violence that are fundamentally transformational and productive, public and collective, illegal but licit, often sanctioned by the state, and foundational to the making of “the people.” Moyukh Chatterjee, Composing Violence, p 6.

Today as we celebrate the birth of Richard Allen, the apostle of freedom, Israel has trapped 1.6 million desperate Palestinians in the southern Gaza city called Rafah. Most of them are women and children. They have denied them access to food, water, shelter, and health care. After this torture, they plan to murder them. The United States of America will have likely paid for the weapons they use. This must not be allowed to happen. The Council of Bishops of the African Methodist Episcopal Church calls on the United States Government to immediately withdraw all funding and other support from Israel. Since 1954, Israel has shown a willful disregard for the human dignity of Palestinians. Since October 7, 2023, in retaliation for the brutal murder of 1139 Israeli citizens by Hamas, Israel has murdered over 28,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children. The United States is supporting this mass genocide. This must not be allowed to continue.

UNC Greensboro's Religion Department proposes and gets a reintegration into new departmental entity in order to keep faculty jobs and the ability to offer courses
One program, Religious Studies, will be discontinued as a department and undergraduate major, but will transition to becoming a concentration within the Liberal and Professional Studies Program. That’s a solution religious studies faculty members themselves put forward after gathering more than 4,000 signatures on a petition asking the university to reconsider shuttering the program. “We met with all the departments and programs that had been recommended to be discontinued,” Gilliam told Newsline in an interview Thursday. “To my mind, religious studies made an extremely compelling case. They had thought about several different ways this could go. They weren’t steadfastly holding on to the totem of having to be ‘The Religious Studies Department.'” Gilliam said he wished more faculty members had followed that department’s lead rather than insisting on maintaining “the status quo” through no cuts at all.
