To my golden retriever family out there:Please get your dog’s eyes checked yearly (low cost at dog show clinics-check schedules and make appointments) for Pigmentary Uveitis.Sophie has had it for at least 4 yrs. Mild/stable now. Is painful for pups if not diagnosed. Eye loss. Affects ~ 25% by age 8.

I think they are pigment, not holes. I have several flicker feathers and they are definitely with black pigment.

Great harvest. I worry seeing the hedgehog out in daylight though. I followed Hedgehog Cabin on X before leaving and saved this post of theirs.
A hedgehog who is getting sufficient food will not come out when the sun is up or before it goes down. So even in the very short nights of June and July, only a hedgehog who can't get enough food in the few hours of darkness will extend those hours, by getting up earlier and going to bed later. But a healthy hog will ALWAYS stick to shade and cover whenever they can, and will walk fast in a straight line if they have to cross an open area. Once they have what they need they will go straight back to bed. A sick hog is only out in the day because he has become hypothermic, therefore feels cold, so is seeking the heat of the sun. He may also be hungry and thirsty but his MAIN AIM is get warmth from the sun. So he will stay out in the open, in the sun, or where the sun would be if it's a cloudy day (the ground there will still be warmer than the ground that's normally in shadow). You'll often see them on paving, paths, patios, driveways, roads, carparks, or other hard surfaces, because they hold the day's heat longer than soil and grass. He will wander aimlessly, or repeat a circuit (a sign of pain) or run fast (again, a sign of pain). Often flies will be attracted to him because they can smell his impending death and want to lay eggs on the body to feed their offspring. A sick dying hedgehog often looks quite normal, as unlike domestic animals they don't have the luxury of showing how sick they really feel; to lie around. That would mean certain death. A wild animal has the survival imperative to keep moving and to hide any weakness. That imperative also forces them to eat if they find food, even when dying. So appearances aren't an indicator of health. Only behaviour is, and a hedgehog out in the day is behaving abnormally. If you are in any doubt, catch the hedgehog, bring him indoors, and immediately phone a good rescue. They will ask all the right questions and will determine if he is sick or not. There's nothing so frustrating to a rescue than getting a phone call…

Just went outside to touch grass as my eye started twitching today. It had been too hot to be outside so spent too much time online. Was rewarded with a Brown Creeper at the birdbath and a hummingbird on the porch planter. Only got a photo of the hummingbird.

Sophie had a road trip out to a lake on the WA peninsula. After a LONG celestial navigation on backroads she finally got her swim. Had to turn on navigation on phone to get us to there. But we made it. 😂🐾🩷
