MASSIVE NEWS: We’ve just bought this parcel of land to convert to a public park! 🌳

This land + the stretch of the road on Mater St that we’re planning to convert would form the largest park in northern Collingwood 🥳

We’ll be consulting on this project soon, so get any thoughts and ideas ready! 🙌

At the end of a month where I’ve heard of at least three pedestrians (including, horribly, a toddler last night) having died on Melbourne’s roads, this news is sorely needed.

As shown in this graphic, 30km/hr speed limits really can save lives.

30km/hr speed limits are a great way to make streets safer without needing costly (or controversial) interventions.

If a street is 30km/hr and doesn’t have too much traffic, you don’t need seperated bike lanes. Everyone (on foot, bike and by car) can still get to their destination easily.

This table of edits may not look like a big deal, but it is a HUGE leap forward!

I’m a massive advocate for 30km/hr speed limits… and today was a big day 🥹

I’ve been working for ages to make it easier for councils to implement this life saving speed limit.

And today, the Department of Transport and Planning’s Speed Zoning Policy was updated to allow councils this choice! 💚

Imagine if this road was a park?!

We’ve got draft plans to turn a section of Budd St, between Sackville and Easey Streets, into a park! 🌳

We’ll be coming to chat to folks in Collingwood about this proposal soon. Let me know what you think! 🙌

Who cycles in Richmond? 🙋🏻‍♀️

The intersection of Swan and Lennox is bustling - full bars, live music, great restaurants!

But it’s a tricky spot to navigate by bike. We’ve proposed some changes that would make it simpler.

Who cycles in Fitzroy North? 🙋🏻‍♀️

The intersection of Scotchmer and St Georges Rd is important - lots of local shops and cafes.

Yet I often have people tell me how dicey they find it on a bike and on foot.

Let us know your thoughts: yoursayyarra.com.au/transport202...

More and more of us live in apartments - but do our laws provide adequate protection?

I’ve been out visiting apartment buildings over the last few months, and have heard that regulations governing apartment buldings are confusing and don’t seem to protect residents.

Join us on 1 Sept to discuss!

The Elizabeth St bike lanes are back on the Yarra Council agenda, and there's a lot of talk about potential liability 👀👀

We’re hoping to turn this road into a park! 🌳

With only 0.3% of land in Collingwood being open space, we are in dire need of more..!

Keep an eye out for more news on the proposed park for Mater St. 💚

The Gipps St bike lanes are a mess. 😵‍💫

Which is why we’ve budgeted for new ones!

Do you use Gipps St or Langridge St in Collingwood or Abbotsford? Let me know know your feedback and ideas. We can make these streets work for everyone. 💖🌳

TONIGHT! I’m moving a motion for council to investigate an e-bike library! 🚲📚

We know from our relatively new, and hugely popular, Library of Things that there is a huge appetite from our community to try out sustainable devices.

What do you think? Do you know of a successful e-bike library?

New priority crossing for folks on foot and bike on the Capital City Trail! 🙌

I championed this crossing last term (including after lobbying from grade 5s!), and am proud to see it delivered (the last item of our 2020 council’s last budget). 💚

New concrete protective barriers have been installed on Wellington St on the north side of the Johnston St (north bound and south bound lanes), and clear marking across Johnston St. 🚲

This is one of the final features from the last council’s last budget to be carried out. 💚

They’re here! And they’re beautiful 😍

The permanent upgrades have gone in at the intersection of Johnston and Wellington Sts!

Good news- we have budgeted funding for preliminary design and consultation work for proper bike lanes for Gipps St in the Yarra budget 🙌

This will complement similar work occurring on parallel Langridge St, so travelling east-west should improve dramatically. Watch this space 💚

Bad news- more delays on the delivery of the Gipps St connection to the Yarra trail 😭 BUT, it is scheduled for completion by the end of 2025 so it’s not toooooo far away.

The location is on a tram route, a train route, a bus route.

It is walking distance to thousands of jobs and a stack of great social services (including just over Hoddle St in Collingwood, my ward).

It is a PERFECT location for affordable housing.

A building that has operated as a rooming house for many years sought to regularise their operations at tonight’s Planning Decisions Committee.

New management took over, realised they didn’t have a permit, and did the responsible thing and applied for one.
