“I will not boast in anything,
No gifts, no power, no wisdom; But I will boast in Jesus Christ…”

Friends, God has been kind. This week, I became Doctora Sophia Sunshine Vilceus, PhD. Doctor of Philosophy in Education. I’m still processing, basking and relishing in the miracle that was Tuesday 🤍

I’ve been thinking how people who made their way into our hearts—people we’ve truly loved—can’t simply be replaced by someone else. New relationships are splendid gifts but don’t you think it’s rather remarkable that God made us so distinctively, no one person can fill the space left by another?

The way of the cross. The way of Jesus. The way of humility, service and preference of others. The way of dying to self & rising with Christ. There’s no other following. This has been the stunning forfeiture in this generation’s discipleship & we have borne its fruit. In repentance we regather joy.

Hey, you. The one that is constantly pouring out by virtue of who you are. The one, sensitive enough to often anticipate the needs of others. The one that relishes in making & holding space for all of them. The deep feeler that internalizes the weightiness of others’ afflictions & their joy.

Rom5:3-5 Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.

Ephesians 4:1-2, “As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love” (NIV).

Had this article on my heart literally for years. I felt compelled to write it, but struggled to everytime I went to type.

I suppose my heart was never in the right space to so. But it is now. I pray this article would be a balm.

Pecos driving. Just took this dumb picture and I’m bent over laughing. One of the secrets to a happy life is to have the sense of humor of a nine year old. Lol

I think love is the truest miracle. Love in a climate of hate. The one clear thing in chaos. The clarity of knowing in all the not knowing that this is obedience. The highest and hardest calling. It’s not sappy, lazy or ill-informed. Love is fearsome. The single most threatening defense that exists.

Composure, Saints! This is a vital witness to our faith in Christ in any era of chaos.

Upon waking, let us meet with Jesus and trade our fear & anger for his courage & compassion.

Rely on God.
Read Scripture.
Be brave.
Pray valiantly.
Act like grownups.
Help the hurting.
Love defiantly.

Oh Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, have mercy. I cannot fathom the shock, grief and horror the loved ones of those involved in the DC crash are enduring. My heart is broken for them. Lord, there are so many suffering. Please, God of all comfort, hold them in your everlasting arms.
