2008 reissue of Dalley´s 1989 translation of Mesopotamian myths. Smooth read with very useful notes. Works great to take your mind off the current desolation in the world.

Based on the Sumerian poem, which antedates both the Hebrew & the Babylonian versions by more than a millenium, man was fashioned of clay as in the Biblical version. The purpose for which he was created, however, was to free the gods from laboring for their sustenance, as in the Babylonian version.

The Egyptians in all probability did have a well developed written literature in the third mil. B.C. Unfortunately it must have been written largely on papyrus, a readily perishable material, & there is little hope that enough of it will ever be recovered.

Laurence Waddell, the Scottish 'Indiana Jones,' claimed in 1930 that the kings of #Egypt & #Sumer were the same lineage, ruling both empires, & that the Aryans founded Western civilization.

Spectacularly wrong—but what audacity and boundless self-assurance! Truly an iconoclast.

The Sumerians by Henry Freeman is a very concise introduction to the history & grandeur of the #ancient #Sumerian civilization & its transformation into the #Akkadian #Babylonian #Assyrian & #Persian

A lot of what we know comes from them, & a lot of what they knew we only discovered in modernity.

There is an evidence from circa 2,600 BCE of a game that can be compared to field hockey called pukku-mekku (ball & stick)

Re-reading #Rigveda - it boils down to this: the oldest #Indian text composed ≅ 1,500 BCE representing memorized celestial instructions on the ceremonial, sanitary & safety procedures for the construction of mobile sites designed for meetings between them & humans

After Advent's solemnity, #Christmas brought feasting and merrymaking, with the wealthy hosting lavish banquets of meats, pies, and delicacies. The festivities lasted twelve days, ending with Epiphany on January 6th.

Pre-history is not what it used to be - ruins of pre-Harrapan civilization dated to 7,500 BCE were found in 2001 underwater in the Bay of Cambay (Gupta 2002). Can that be one of the mythical cities of #Krishna?

Ram Setu is a mythical bridge built by Rama to connect #India & Sri Lanka. According to marine archeologists (e.g. Khare, ed. 2024) the bridge was just above the then-current sea level between 5,000-3,000 BCE. Looks like another #myth in fact being a historical fact.

There is so much more to discover for #archeology in #Egypt! The 1st dynasty capital of Thinis/This has not yet been located, although Herzig (2024) assumes it lies across the river Nile from the Abydos necropolis, under the modern Girga. Below the burial palette of the Predynastic king Narmer.

This #book will not tell you what the hell those #drones are, but will show you the extent of the byzantine bureacracy of the US intelligence agencies & the macho infighting bullcrap prevailing there that explains the inaction & chaos.

Temple Chariot. National Museum New Delhi, #India. These things are massive, 5-30m tall weighing many tons, carrying gods around during Ratha Yatra festivals. What could they be modelled after? #Hindu #Vishnu Fotos mine.
