My son has started drawing again. This makes me so happy.

He hates the new food and is furious that we won’t give him treats or let him out, so he’s not put on much weight yet, but he’s started cuddling us again.

I picked this up in the park. I think it’s a hedgehog egg. If I find an unbroken one and keep it in the hot press all winter, will it hatch out in the spring? I’ve always wanted baby hedgehogs.
A prickly sweet chestnut case that has opened up. One unripe chestnut, half brown, half white, is still in it.

I had to stop and photograph this monster on the roadside yesterday.
A large toadstool at the stage where its top is concave and the white gills are visible. The top surface is red with white dots, with a tiny bite out of the far edge. The stalk is as high as my palm width, and the radius of the cap is about the length of my fingers, as demonstrated by my hand next to it.

Hey, #CatSky, do we think this torbie kitten is a boy or girl? Previous owner thinks it’s a boy, but we are unsure, given its colouration.

This is our dog, Cinnamon. We are trying to teach her to roll over so she is a Cinnamon roll.

Kitten in training. He hasn’t yet mastered the art of being a perfect circle. That tail needs a bit more curve.

If you look really closely, you can see the little door in the stem of the toadstool where the gnome lives.
A fly agaric mushroom, that’s the one that has a bright red cap with white spots. The white stem has a little frill at the top, and it’s nestled among grass and twigs. It is where you might expect to find a fairy living.

In today’s foraging adventure, I discovered that rock samphire grows in abundance near us. I also discovered that I really don’t like the taste of rock samphire.
In the foreground, a small bush of rock samphire. It has spiky green leaves and yellow, orange and dark red umbellifer flowers. Behind it is a breakwater of large grey rocks and a triangle of darker grey sea. A very autumnal picture.

Rosy-fingered dawn reaching through the portal this morning.
A field of stubble where the hay was cut this week. We are looking along a hedgerow of mature trees to the corner, where it meets a hedgerow of smaller trees. Through the gap between, a strip of golden light spills through from the dawn in the next field.

An elder tree with a large branch blown over in earlier storms. It has not been diminished by this, as the fallen branch is heavy with dark red elderberries. The main tree in the background wears a heavy coat of ivy.

Disabled people need assistive technology to do art, not AI. For example, Frida Kahlo’s inverted easel over her bed:

You might like this: our kitten Potato is the Boss of our setter Cinnamon. Only ten times his size, but under his control.

This admonition in the vet’s surgery tickled me. I’m not sure if it would be more effective than the usual one about respect, or zero tolerance, but it captures something interesting about what is going on when customers kick off.

The exception is apparently our red and white setter, who runs off to the pub if left unsupervised. She is 100% successful in persuading people I am cruel for retrieving her and taking her home.
Irish red and white setter looks pathetically at the camera, as though butter wouldn’t melt in her mouth. She is white with one red ear and a red patch on the opposite side of her face. She is wearing a neon yellow harness and sitting virtuously all four paws together in an attempt to persuade bystanders that she is not a chaos-demon.
