Unloved, the Minster lingered where the river’s shadows lay,
A hollow shell of secrets kept, cradled long in slow decay.

Historically, Minster Lovell Hall was built around 1440 for William Lovell, a nobleman of significant standing in the late medieval period. The estate later passed to other aristocratic owners, including the Coke family. In 1747, the then–Earl of Leicester decided to leave Minster Lovell and relocate permanently to his Norfolk estate, effectively abandoning the Oxfordshire manor. With no resident family and no further upkeep, the hall rapidly deteriorated, falling into ruin over the decades that followed. Today, the atmospheric remains—preserved by English Heritage—stand as a poignant example of medieval domestic architecture and the shifting fortunes of England’s landed families.

The old fisherman’s cottage sinks into its own silence,

& the land, patient as ever, gathers it back grain by grain.

One foot in the grave (1990-2000) 😂
A weathered 19th-century gravestone lies flat on the ground in the churchyard of St Mary Abbots Church, High Street Kensington, London — a parish church originally founded in 1177. The stone, surrounded by fallen autumn leaves and green plants, bears a worn inscription commemorating Walter Coulton and his widow Sarah Coulton. A single yellow maple leaf rests near the upper section, partly covering some of the text. At the bottom edge, the photographer’s patterned shoes are visible. The lettering, in eroded serif type, remains faintly legible, reflecting the age and weathering of the stone. Sacred to the Memory of WALTER COULTON many years an inhabitant of this Parish who departed this life 4th Novr 1830, Aged 74 Years. This stone is placed as a token of esteem by his affectionate ________ Also of SARAH COULTON His Widow who departed this life surviving her deceased Husband only 10 weeks on the 25th of January 1831, Aged 73 Years.
