I was in the deep jungle of Sierra Leone many years ago. It wasn't a planned visit, but that's another story. As we were walking through the village, I remarked to the doctor in our party about how healthy all the children were, considering.

That nauseating display reminded me of the old naval term: "snorkeling", which means someone shoving their head so far up their boss's arse a snorkel is needed to breathe!

I think a key difference is the British parades (and other good ones) aren't to show off the latest machines and might. They are a display of colour, discipline and pageantry. The red coats and bearskin helmets are not flexing wargear but celebrating skill and heritage.

The thing that concerns me most is that this chance event uncovered endemic behaviour. Why are Trump officials using Signal for their communications instead of formal secure services?
Is it lazyness, do they just think themselves above the rules or is it to avoid transparency?

And this while in the UK (and most other places) an MP is likely to be instantly suspended or removed from government if a mildly offensive text is discovered in a years old chat...
