My crankiest belief is that we are now being sold on solutions to problems which only exist because we've let others convince us they exist. That is what "innovation" seems to be in 2025.
There's a level of introspection that's just not happening these days re: what actually needs to bother us.

I'm so glad that the UK gov. has tied the futures of so many departments & public services to AI processes & tools! I welcome our high tech future! Unrelatedly, let me just check the stocks of AI tech companies today.

Pessimism of the intellect allows us to better analyse worst-case scenarios, but optimism of the will means that we actually get out & make plans to thwart them. There *is* a organisation, online or in person, where you *will* forge community & provide what the state cannot: hope for a future.
