The other day I was on the phone with my mom. She said she had heard of Nikki Giovanni but was not familiar with any of her work. So I found Nikki’s ‘Winter poem’ and read it aloud to her. Just as I said the last word of the poem, my mom took a short breath and said, “What an imagination.”
