On this day in 2012, Dumbarton thrashed Airdrie United 4-1 at the Excelsior stadium for a 6-2 aggregate win to gain promotion to the (now) championship. A Craig Dargo brace and goals from Mark Gilhaney and Tony Wallace sealed the play off win.

On this day in 1995, Dumbarton defeated Stirling Albion 2-0 at Forthbank in a winner takes all promotion clash. Goals from Hugh Ward and Charlie Gibson clinched the win and a place in the 1st division.

#Otd in 1972, @Dumbartonfc won the 2nd division title. A Charlie Gallagher brace with Kenny Wilson and Peter Coleman also scoring in a 4-2 win against Berwick Rangers meant a return to top tier football after a 50 year gap.

This is the first time Dumbarton have had six different scorers in the same match since a 10-3 win at home to Stranraer on 24th August 1957. John Smith, Bobby Gibson, Hugh Gallacher (4), Tim Whalen (2), John Glover and John McMillan all scored that day.

Kenny Wilson scored 87 goals in 101 appearances for the Sons and was inducted in the club's hall of fame. An absolute gentleman who will be missed. Rest in peace Kenny.
