apparently the GBUAPCD (Great Basin Unified Air Pollution Control District) monitors air pollution with camera that take pictures every 30 seconds. they also compile them into videos at the end of every day… you can just pick a location and a date and watch the clouds move over the sierras 😌

this piece by @kasey.bsky.social reminded me of this funny quote from Christophe Loiron, founder of Mister Freedom:

jeeesus christ this is bleak. in order to achieve profitability, spotify is using cheap songs they produce as filler for playlists. you are listening to the amazon basics version of Miles Davis without knowing it.

Sad to report that Luna (the florist’s dog) passed away after 15 years of “guarding” their stand. She is succeeded by Tula, of 9 months, also known as Tuna by the elderly owner who regularly mixes up their names

Maybe it’s a bit too earnest for today’s audience. But in a sea of inauthentic movies in a self-cannibalizing industry, this really stood out for me. Maybe it’s an unfair critique because it’s an old movie, but I think I’ve watched it at the right time.

It can be about what’s shared at a campfire between the young and the old, or by two veterans at a bar, or about being able to simply listen to another person who is having a bad day.

The structure is somewhat picaresque, as the MC spends time with different characters in different places throughout his adventure. Each encounter is nourishing in a different way.

Surprised to be touched by a David Lynch movie as much as I have been having watched “The Straight Story” (1999).
A tender and seemingly simple quintessential American story about an old man driving a lawn mower across state lines to see his estranged brother.
