DSA members who dont work on electoral projects? we do union organizing, strike support, mutual aid, internationalist solidarity projects, protest organizing/support/safety, education, internal democracy building, immigrant support, and a lot more.

dawg im just a member, i didnt write this myself, idk. like i said, it can and should be contested if it's not the correct position. personally i assume DSA does not align with everything i believe, but also DSA's platform and my own beliefs are constantly evolving, hopefully towards truth

DSA's agenda is set and revised every 2 years by a convention of delegates from the various chapters. Depending on the specifics of what you're wanting, the current platform may actually include it:

.. but if it doesn't, it's something that can be contested.
DSA Political Platform - Democratic Socialists of America (DSA)
Preamble The Democratic Socialists of America are fighting to win a world organized and governed by and for the vast majority, the working class. We are socialist because we share a vision of a humane ...

DSA is just a name. Lenin's org was called the Social Democratic party too. there are a ton of people within DSA who share your position 100%, and the org is democratic in a way that makes joining and fighting over the national position worthwhile imo.

love and respect it

without a doubt there are cops in all large socialist orgs. the leader of the SR Combat Org in revolutionary russia was a policy spy. DSA is not exclusively an electoral org, and our electoral work is building a party that goes way beyond voting

This from Libertarian Socialist Caucus is a pretty good overview of DSA caucuses and internal politics:

Marxist Unity Group is one of several marxist caucuses in DSA. Caucuses are unofficial from DSA's perspective, but are very important in how DSA's democracy functions on a national scale. My experience with MUG members has been positive, but I haven't read all of their theory (they have a lot).

i think those are reasonable facts. you're only one person.

ig I'm curious what decisions NPC made that you wish could have triggered a recall vote. maybe you disagree with the dropped endorsement of AOC? just guessing since you disagree with LSC on electoral issues
June 19, 2025 at 10:03 PM
i like the idea of making NPC recallable but don't think that's primarily what 1m1v would do.

imo national's errors have mostly been right deviations and i believe 1m1v would benefit the right wing of dsa, which is why they're so strongly advocating it

I'm not trying to describe representative vs direct democracy generally. i am not interested in that. I'm describing my current exp with delegation vs the proposed new system
June 19, 2025 at 9:17 PM
this is coming from my own experience as a dsa member at various levels of involvement. i love delegating and trusting when i don't have the time to become highly informed
June 19, 2025 at 9:15 PM
this is an incorrect understanding of materialism as a concept but also you're being kind of a jerk so I'm gonna disengage
June 19, 2025 at 9:14 PM
sorry i assumed marxist literacy. it's undialectical because it doesn't observe the issue in is context. it's idealist (rather than materialist) because it tries to take a stance on the idea generally rather than looking at the real effects and historical reasons for things. dsa and the usa differ
June 19, 2025 at 9:04 PM
i dont think this is a very dialectical or materialist perspective. direct voting is good in some contexts and less good in others
June 19, 2025 at 8:57 PM
i dont think majoritarian democracy means everyone voting on everything all the time. i think its important to delegate and trust
June 19, 2025 at 8:57 PM
we vote for delegates who we know and trust and work with intimately locally. we entrust them to become highly informed and to try to steer the national org properly on our behalf. they then elect a national body to manage their direction.
vs
we vote directly for national candidates we dont know
