I came here to have an escape from Muskville.
Yet ...
Lally has zero posts, maybe my insights into Aston Villa, military matters, justice (both social and judicial), and culture generally is what has made her ample bottom follow me?

I recall this hot take ...

I understand this perspective, yet I also think public spending debt running at 95% of GDP is unsustainable.
One third of this total is the Bank of England's cleaning up costs after Liz Truss was in power.

It never happened.
If it might of happened - no classified information was shared.
If it sort of happened and critical intelligence was shared ...
it's ok because Signal is super duper secure.

This strikes me as a bit harsh ...

So if like me, the idea of paying half a weeks money for something cheap old and tatty yet described as 'rare' or 'original' is anathema to the souk moocher in you ...

Influx of bottery on Bluesky then.
My firm perception of Putin may be to blame.
Sudden flock of follows who all had to odd characteristic of following hundreds, but with no or few followers themselves, and zero posts of their own.
I hope the admins here can nip this shit in the bud. 🤖

Interesting that the follow up makes no mention of the instigator of this assault - Sheriff Bob

I was talking this week about pedantry being the ruination of the otherwise excellent VAR technology. I think this is the perfect example of it.
The letter of the law superior to the spirit of the law.

Not that this excuses Villa's defending.

Brave, bold, fearless, direct.
I hope Slot is forced to eat paella🦐, rather than Emery being forced to eat stampott 💩.
Paella is clear in my view.

I find it interesting that nearly all shades of UK political colour have condemned J D Vance's ill advised speech lecturing Europe on 'free speech', instead of talking about mutual defence against the tyrant Putin.
All shades except the light blue of Farage and company that is.

The aim of the Heritage Foundation is fairly clear. Abandon NATO, leave Putin to Europe, so America can focus on China. This isn't news to us. What would be news is a coherent commitment to fund a NATO capable of repelling Putin. Do this and Trump becomes less of an issue.
Except for Americans.

Success brings many positives
But in football it also brings negatives.
I recall many Gooners screaming 'Wenger Out'
Here we are again, and for what benefit?

The German 50+1 model could help, but it is also the main reason German football is mainly dominated by one club - one club being Champion for 11 years is the antithesis of a dynamic meritocracy.
The lack of billionaires in the Bundesliga a key reason they are so keen for revenue based limitations.
February 5, 2025 at 2:05 PM
Is there a way out?
In the short term UEFA has to do this because otherwise entire leagues could collapse.
La Liga gets half its entire income via its two dominant clubs. That is unsustainable without tilting the pitch.
February 5, 2025 at 2:05 PM
Debt is the child in the attic for football right now. UEFA doesn't factor it, the FA and PL don't account for it, and yet in 24/25 Madrid are carrying 1.5 bn, Barca 1.8bn, Chelsea 1.5 bn etc etc
The revenues may be high, but the debt burden is ever growing.

So in a system that awards 2 points for a win, and 1 for a draw, and tens of thousands for historical participation, Villa and their 43,900 points are dwarfed by everpresents like ...
FC Copenhagen - 46,380
Bodo Glimt - 44,050
Crvena Zvezda - 44,000
UEFA protects their regulars because money ...
February 5, 2025 at 2:05 PM
And when we look we see something odd.
Points are not simply awarded for clubs doing well in Europe for the current season - they are rewarded and carry that reward onwards into the next season for their 'historical' performance too.
Which helps entrench regular members of the elite.
It gets worse.
February 5, 2025 at 2:05 PM
Given the power to influence outcome via this seeding process, UEFA is very keen to talk about fairness and level playing fields, with transparency about how these points get awarded. Well done UEFA one might say, until one looks at the small print.

I'm watching now.
I got this all day today.
Wish they wouldn't separate broadcasts by level. 👍
