An unused attract mode buried within Sonic the Fighters data has been re-implemented thanks to code ported from Fighting Vipers own attract movie code. What you see here may not be fully as the developers intended. youtu.be/7-FKc91xZRI

The first ever Model2 decompilation project has been started.
The first functioning "decomp" of Sonic the Fighters has been pushed to the github repo! It's currently all assembly language, but if you know anyone who likes to fiddle with documentation, formatting, or tools, I need all the help I can get! Enjoy!

Sonic the Fighters is getting better support in MAME soon. Left is the old MAME build, right is the new MAME build. The biggest difference here is the layering of the shadows.

Sonic the Fighters disables gravity for many moves and actions, contrary to my previous post. Here's what the game looks like with gravity ALWAYS applied to everything.

I was wrong. "disable gravity" appears to be used more than "normal gravity". Stay tuned for a followup post comparing what "gravity always on" does...
Sonic the Fighters has a routine which seemingly isn't used very much that disables gravity. Here's the routine in action when it replaces the "normal gravity" routine.

The Sonic the Fighters home release in 2012 for the PS3 and Xbox 360 was one of one of five games released in the Model 2 Collection by Sega. They emulate the original Model 2 arcade titles, so if the title were recompiled you would end up with an emulator for the base arcade game.

Sonic the Fighters fact: Knuckles will not hesitate to punch first and ask questions later
What would you do if he came a’knocking?

Sonic the Fighters has function which will freeze the game and display all the Intel i960 CPU's registers and their values as well as where the freeze occurred. The game will only freeze when certain conditions are met. Currently it seems impossible to activate this on a retail game without mods.

This one was the one I was researching, but doesn't seem to be getting any discoverability.
It's not mind blowing, but it's really interesting! The attract mode, the opening cutscene of Sonic the Fighters, uses RNG! That's right, it uses RNG to calculate the blackouts on monitor watching the Death Egg II from the lab where Tails keeps the Lunar Fox! Here's how the scene looks normally...

The Sonic the Fighters "Sound Test" uses a very clever trick. You can navigate sounds with up and down and play them with P1 punch. However, if you press "Service Coin", it simulates pressing down and punch to play the next sound directly from the service panel, no need to be at the controls!

Still researching that new fact, but here's a fav of mine while you all wait: When Sonic and Knuckles play against each other in Sonic the Fighters, a special music track called "North Wind" is supposed to play but only works if P1 is Sonic and P2 is Knuckles due to a programming oversight!

Thank you for so many followers so fast! I didn't expect this much growth this fast with so few posts. I am currently researching something that I don't think has been investigated before so stay tuned for a brand new, never before seen, fact!

All StF characters are made up of a series of objects which make up a player's model. A blue cube is positioned Inside the body object of the Tails model. This can be seen using debug mode's camera functions. The object number of this cube is 49, meaning it was probably added early in development.

Sonic the Fighters has two unused projectile types: a flying hand, and a flying heart. The flying heart doesn't seem to affect all players equally, nor does it give recoil when using barrier against it.

On startup, Sonic the Fighters checks to see if it can read and write to the backup RAM. If it can't, it assumes the power supply's voltage is too low, and continues to run the RAM check until the test is successful and the game can continue booting.

If you use debug mode to change the current stage to Flying Carpet, the carpet spawns in the middle of the stage. This gives you a closer look at the vending machines near the body of water, otherwise impossible to see from the carpet when it follows it's path in the air.
