So working at a smaller company where you’re the only person doing important work to keep the company running seems fairly safe.

Roles like surgeons, physical therapists, and craftspeople depend on senses like touch and sight that AI won’t be able to replicate any time soon.

Work in smaller companies. As AI increases junior-level productivity, middle management in large firms may be the first to go.

Work in highly regulated industries. Fields like healthcare, law, and defense are going to take a lot longer to adopt AI as they have v strict operating standards.

Rely on physical senses.

Work without clear feedback loops (think startup founders, strategists, brand marketing). There’s no right way to do these types of jobs, no clear blueprint for AI to learn, so jobs that require innovation and lots of ambiguity are likely to be fairly safe.

Know secrets or collect their own data (thinkuser researchers, ethnographers, investigative journalists). AI only knows what it’s been trained to know. It can’t access what we learn through original interviews, customer research, or fieldwork.

Have strong networks and help others grow theirs. AI can’t make introductions for people or start collaborations, so our ability to find people doing cool things, reach out to them and build genuine connections will still be essential.

She contracts generativity with the idea of leaving a legacy.

Instead of worrying about how big a legacy you’ll leave behind, focus on what you can do in the here and now to help others 🥰

🙏Make a pact - I will do [action] for [duration]. There is no successful outcome from a pact, no end goal. The aim is to just collect more data about yourself during this time so you can learn about yourself and interate

🙋‍♀️Focus on showing up - rather than perfecting everything

🔬Make hypotheses about yourself - based on your field notes, what questions about yourself do you have? Turn these into hypotheses. E.g. if you notice you're feeling anxious when you wake up, you could hypothesize that meditating in the morning might help

📝 Take field notes - every time you think of a new idea, or have a thoughtful question, write it down and start to collect a massive dataset about you and your thoughts. See if you can identify patterns, new curiosities or a need to re-evaluate your goals—how do you feel about your average day?

🛣️ Don't focus on purpose - this makes you think you're carving a unique path when in reality you're only limiting your potential for growth and learning. Instead, embrace ‘distractions’ and follow your curiosity

4. Measure where information value is high. (Return to steps 2 and 3 until further measurement is not needed.) 📈

5. Make a decision and act on it. (Return to step 1 and repeat as each action creates new decisions.) 🚀

The framework for the whole book it:

1. Define the decision. 💬

2. Determine what you know now. 🔍

3. Compute the value of additional information. (If none, go to step 5.) ➕
