Is public school next?
The move to restrict participation in Head Start raises questions about whether the administration is moving toward supporting efforts by conservatives to challenge rules that have, for decades, required states to provide a free K-12 education for children regardless of their immigration status.
Those rules date to the landmark 1982 Supreme Court ruling in Plyler vs. Doe. Several states have considered legislation denying a free education to undocumented children, knowing it would be challenged in court. The hope is to take a case to the Supreme Court, where a conservative majority could revisit its precedent in Plyler.
Last year, the Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank influential with the Trump administration, urged states to require that school districts collect immigration statuses of children and then charge tuition to families in the country illegally.

I sent an email to the National Clearinghouse for English Language Acquisition asking they were still operating. Their response: “All of NCELA resources are still available for free download” I would not bet on them existing for long

He added that ICE agents use administrative warrants — signed by someone inside ICE — not judicial warrants for routine deportations. Judicial warrants are needed, he argued, only if an arrest is part of a criminal investigation. He added that ICE officers are allowed to operate anywhere that is open to the public. School buildings, however, are not open to members of the public and ICE may not be able to insist on access, absent a judicial warrant, if school officials resist, he said.
Still, if outdoor areas or sidewalks near schools are open to the public, it would be easier for ICE to operate there without a warrant.

These policies include potentially reinstating changes to public charge policy that were implemented during the first Trump administration, a proposal to end birthright citizenship for the children of some immigrants, and plans to carry out mass detention and deportations of immigrants, potentially including their citizen children and other family members. Birthright citizenship is a right guaranteed under the 14th amendment of the U.S. Constitution for children born in the U.S. regardless of their parents’ immigration status at the time of the child’s birth.
