unlike something like xenoblade 2 where even fans dislike some of the early-to-midgame, i wouldnt say the start is considered "weak" by any means, i wouldnt describe it as something that "gets good later", its just solid groundwork.

but all i described is subjective, so youre either into it or not

the characters' charm. they are also obviously important to set up what's to come in regards of worldbuilding.

theres some big reveals and more serious character conflict coming up after the red dragon if thats what you want, as well as exploring deeper aspects of the worldbuilding. but -

well, id say it's already good, maybe its just not to your taste at this point.

what makes the early arc fun for me is: the creativity (both in art, how monsters work, how they deal with them, and the cooking after the fact), the humor being a breath of fresh air bc most anime misses *hard*, and-
