We loved being able to see hummingbirds in our garden when we lived in Virginia for 3 yrs in the '70s. The nearest thing we have here are hummingbird hawk moths in our garden shown below. (apologies for amateur mobile phone video!)

Apologies for the delay in sending the promised photo of purple flowers. I hadn't planned to buy asters but they were half price because they were due to be discarded as they were reaching the end of their flowering period. Being perennials we can plant them out in the garden next year!

Re Women standing together as sisters I was sorting through a pile of Guardian magazines recently & this powerful image on one cover last year depicting Gloria Steinem & Dorothy Pitman Hughes on the subject '100 Women who changed the the World' really stood out!

My father was posted to the U.S. from 1972/5 & we lived in a house on a lake in Virginia Beach where we had hummingbirds in the garden which were delightful to see. The nearest thing we have in the U.K. are hummingbird hawk moths. Very amateur video of one in our garden last year below!

We have a passion for swifts whose numbers have drastically declined in the U.K. due to lack of nesting sites. We installed 4 swift bricks and all are occupied this year. They'll leave very soon to head back to SW Africa. The same families return for up to 30 yrs! Love from Jane 🥰
