I used a bunch of gritty texture brushes that I never use, especially for the background. This was done injust ballpoint pen (Pentel RSVP and Pentel Floatune. no pencil undersketch) with some Pentel pocket brush and white gel pen before scanning. Simple colors added in CSP. Top left sketch is the original day 15 thumbnail, top right is another iteration cleaning up some details that were vague (hand) and figuring out the cloth folds fop turning it into Order Sol. The smaller series of sketches above this text were to decide what to put in little detail boxes around the composition. The thumbnails all done with ballpoint pens on copy paper and the final inks were with a fineliner on 9x12" (22.8x30.4cm) smooth bristol board. Digital colors.

Sol's eyes are really inconsistent but here's one of only like 5 good pages from Xtra and 3 Daisuke illustrations where Sol has cool slit pupils instead of round ones. Since Vastedge (2013) Sol has only had round pupils and brown eyes (instead of red, orange, or yellow)

Emiko Iwasaki's Sols for the GGXX (1st pic) and Isuka arcade modes (2nd, 3rd) live in the back of my mind when thinking about how to place the shadows on Sol. His outfit has a lot of layering parts that make it harder than you'd think. This poster for Isuka by Daisuke has heavy shading too (4th)

Some examples of the Daisuke HOS's where he makes the hair look like horns, wings, or fire. He doesn't always do this, it seems to be something he mostly did around the XXAC to XXAC+R era

I get a lot of shit for giving Sol "elf ears." Well too bad because they're canon. From Guilty Gear Begin (cover and interior illustrations; by Daisuke Ishiwatari, digital media). I also borrow the hands and the "broody" mood of some of the other drawings from this book too.

If I draw a particularly beautiful Sol Badguy it's because of Shishizaru's Order Sol. Special illustration in GGX Slash, but also reprinted in the GG Magazine 1st Gig booklet (which this scan comes from)

The Artworks of GGX 2004 cover is ICONIC. It's debatable if that's his ponytail, clothes, or an actual tail making the tail-like shape behind him, but HOS's DI Sakkai sprites have a tail like that too (sort of like Dizzy's tail). Sol's hair also often has wing or horn shapes in Daisuke's HOS art
