Today videogames taught me: Hope is not a substitute for strategy; through skillful means we can adapt whatever the universe deals us to fit our needs.

Today videogames taught me: Human existence is precious and fleeting, but we can survive - even thrive - if we focus on collective well-being, rein in our attachments, and appreciate each moment of the journey.

Today videogames taught me: Talking with strangers can be challenging, but it never hurts to start with asking someone's name and job. Maybe avoid the topic of eggs for the time being.

Impossible Mission is a classic from Epyx that combines puzzling with hair-trigger action. Its buttery smooth animation and digitized sound effects are unmatched. "Stay a while... Stay forever!”

Every Canadian over 45 probably remembers Consumers Distributing, a catalogue-based retailer. Here are computers and consoles from the coveted 83-84 Christmas edition - it advertises a Coleco ADAM Expansion Module 3 in its prototype form, very different from the final product.

If you're aching for some fresh takes on the Ultima-style RPG genre and haven't yet tried Skald: Against The Black Priory, Nox Archaist, or Moonring, check them out! Each is unique and all pay homage to their roots.

A very cool event in the game Elite Dangerous happens tonight: mankind's greatest threat has been defeated in Earth's orbit after a grueling multi-week campaign. It coincides with the game's 10 year anniversary! I played the first game in 1984 and have been fighting Thargoids for 40 years.

Remember the Vectrex? This system, released by GCE in '83, used a vector display. Think "Pink Floyd laser light show in a box".

When most families only had one TV to fight over, it was hugely innovative. A controller could be clipped into the front, and there was a carry handle on the back.

Inaugural post. This is my retro computer museum, with about 25 functioning computers, consoles, and handheld devices in a 13'x6' space in the basement. I run a club in Manitoba celebrating the electronic toys and nerdy passions of the kids we once were (and still are).
