He can smell the sweet scent of the earth, carried through the Shroud on a gentle, rustling breeze. As Solis breathes in the elements around him, eyes shut, he swings his walnut cane in front of him. With all his focus, he reaches for the periphery of the Elemental’s blessing, scraping the very edge of it. Yet when he opens his eyes, he is alone, the wind still soft on his skin, bereft of the right to conjure.

Solis watches Krile laugh with her parents, who, despite the falseness in their nature, had at last granted the Lalafellian woman the closure she had sought. He stares down at the ice cream in his hand, trying to focus on a lone drip melting onto his fingers and not the green feeling burgeoning in his heart. This isn’t my moment, he thinks to himself, just as he looks up to meets Krile’s grin with one of his own.

It nuzzled it’s feathered head into Solis’s shoulder, and suddenly any trepidation he had about caring for another life had flown the coop.

It crescendoed across his conscious mind, doubling him over in agony as the world around him turned gray and dark and cold. At it’s peak, where all further pain became a numb, pointless ache, and all he could see were the tears and blood welling in his eyes, a whisper, faint but close, gently drifted above it all. “At last…”

As the three leaders of the Eorzean Alliance summoned him up unto the rock, Solis tried looking to his new allies for strength. Instead, his eyes drifted from the beaming Scions and floated across the crowd of soldiers, from all across Eorzea, cheering for Warrior of Light. His face flushed a deep crimson, and had Solis a shell he would have crawled right into it.

His broad, pauldroned shoulders blocked the opening of the door, which he would stand in front of until Solis was decent. Before the door completely closed, Solis glanced up at the statue of the Fury, a smile of grim satisfaction melting onto his face.

The inn was at last quiet, now that the last rowdy pirate had been deprived of his ale and shunted off to bed. The only noise now was the light tapping of keys at the piano, threaded together in melody not unlike a rhythm of waves crashing up onto La Noscea’s shores. Solis rested his head on the bar table, slowly tracing the rim of his glass, until his finger slipped back into the crook of his thumb and he drifted off to sleep.

As the Elder Seedseer took in the sight of this new adventurer, smile warm and presence inviting, Solis saw an almost imperceptible crease in her brow, and a shadow flicked within her eyes. Recognition, it seemed, mixed with pity. Now she saw him, the bloodied boy brought out of the Lamb’s nest, and Solis could feel his heart rise into his throat.
