We must push back against voter suppression and ensure that every student, especially those at HBCUs, has the opportunity to make their voices heard at the ballot box.

This isn’t just an inconvenience it’s an attack on democracy itself. Young, Black, and student voters are shaping the future, and policies like the SAVE Act are designed to silence us.

As a voting advocate, I’ve seen firsthand how vital voter education and registration are to ensuring students can exercise their rights. Making the process more complicated for students many of whom may not be familiar with state voting laws is a deliberate attempt to discourage participation.

For HBCU students, this is even more harmful. Historically, Black voters have faced systemic efforts to suppress their voices, and this bill is just another tactic to weaken our political power.

By restricting student IDs as a valid form of voter identification, the SAVE Act disproportionately affects young voters who may not have easy access to other forms of ID.

The SAVE Act is a direct attack on student voters, especially those at HBCUs, by making it harder for them to participate in elections. College students already face significant barriers to voting, from out-of-state residency rules to lack of transportation to polling places. Pt1
