Merchant is especialy great for the overworld money gain on weaker enemies so it's definitely worth it to use it more!! & personally I throw Gold Attack from Merchant onto my Faker and it makes it a lot more useful for attacks instead of just almost exclusively buffs

i'm about 35 hours into it! i'm enjoying it as well, i know i'm gonna be putting a LOTTT more time into it
