Ngl it's kinda breaking my heart to see people say they don't share their writing because they are scared they got something wrong. It says a lot about fandom communities, and how we undervalue fic writers, that this is the case.

i wanted to elaborate more on this b/c the ao3 bots are an invisible issue in fandom if you're not a writer or on writer-focused sites often. i see this affecting lots of people, it sucks, and it plays into a broader trend of devaluing human creativity that fucks everyone over. here's the details:

The walk to the stables and feed room was spent in companionable silence, with Yves keeping a brisk pace ahead that Haurchefant was hard-pressed to keep up with. The man was a dragoon—now the second Azure Dragoon—so it was to be expected in spite of Haurchefant's dedication to daily leg exercise. Halone be praised for the dragoon armor breeches being so form-fitting, he thought with a solemn nod, staring at the view with only a tinge of guilt. As they reached the stable enclosure and opened the wooden gates, several of the riding chocobos walked up to their stall doors in curiosity. The sound of chirping and little bleats filled the air, and the bitter grassy smell of gysahl greens drifted from the piles of feed in the back of the corridor. Haurchefant made sure to bring some extra cereal grains for the birds so they wouldn't become too disgruntled watching the two of them caring for the sheep. Yves greeted each one of the chocobos with a scratch under their beaks as well, and they ruffled their feathers in preening contentment. "Now then, let's see what House Haillenarte has in store for us! Oh, my." The last stall housed an energetic bundle of karakul lambs that had already done a fine job of claiming the place for themselves. Some were cuddled together in sleep, others chased each other in rings around the pen, and there were always a few eccentric ones up to no good. One lamb with black wool had tipped over the water trough and was trying to lick the water from the floor in vain. Meanwhile, a particularly chubby lamb had flipped on its back by accident and kept attempting to summon its strength to right itself, but only flailed its thin legs in vain. "’Tis fortunate that we arrived here when we did, is it not, Yves?" he chuckled as he turned behind him. Yves was currently staring down the stall with the focused intensity of a hunting dog pointing at a burrow. "Are you well, my friend? If you are put off by the smell, allow me to handle them—" "Which one do I pet first?" His voice was trembling—or rather, his entire body seemed to be, as his hands bunched up in excitement. "T-they're all so wooly…I can’t decide…" "Adorable," Haurchefant said while looking in the opposite direction of the rotund baby animals and straight at the fully armored Azure Dragoon, Hydaelyn's chosen warrior and slayer of primals. Yves nodded fervently in response. His eyes were sparkling with joy. "Ahem—that upside-down one appears to be in quite the predicament," Haurchefant suggested. "You may proceed first, and I will shut the stall door after you so none escape." Another not-so-stoic nod and then his friend went to unlatch the door and slip in. He moved with a surprising amount of grace, given the drachen mail he wore. The lambs baa’ed at the sudden intrusion, flocking to the far corner of the stall. The karakul that was stuck on its back had stopped wiggling and made a single deep bleating noise, as if it accepted its undignified fate. Yves knelt down and gently rolled the poor sheep forward so it sat on its rear. The lamb was panting in exertion, allowing Yves to hold it in place to regain some strength. "It's alright now," his friend murmured. As the lamb bleated again, he started scratching it behind the horns. Haurchefant had never seen him like this—although he and the Scions had only arrived at Camp Dragonhead in times of great need and distress, so Haurchefant had no basis for comparison. Yves had little dimples on his cheeks when he smiled wider. Dimples! The sight was more rare than any of the treasures in the Vault. Yves let the lamb get up on shaky legs, keeping a hand by its side in case it fell again. With a happy baa, it celebrated its freedom and began prancing around in circles. His friend looked like he was about to burst into tears of happiness. The other karakul sheep, satisfied that the spiky stranger was not a threat, began moving out of the corner and roaming towards him. "They have so much fleece." Yves said with a hushed voice. "Even woolier than the ones in the Shroud..." "These karakul are bred to be as hardy and independent as possible, adapted for the harsh snows," Haurchefant explained while leaning over the stall door. "Although the one you rescued may be less so!" "Don't be mean to the sheep. They are confused by the change in their environment." Yves's lips were turned down into a little pout. I might faint, Haurchefant thought. It is a grave danger to the realm for someone like him to be this cute. "Hah! You speak like you know exactly what they're saying," he joked in an attempt to redirect his thoughts from wandering to the various things he wanted to do with his lips. "I do, though. Because of the Echo." Yves stared back at him with an unamused expression while surrounded by a fluffy pile of lambs. "They are currently talking about eating hay, and complaining that they can't get enough water with the trough overturned." "...Oh. I-I shall amend that post-haste," Haurchefant replied. Bringing him to see the sheep was supposed to win his affections. And now I must also win over all the sheep... At least walking away to find a bucket of water gave Haurchefant time to internally scream to the heavens about what he just saw. After returning, he handed the bucket over the stall door and let Yves refill their water supply. He was about ready to let Yves do anything he wanted at this point, if he continued being so enthused about it. Some of the lambs wandered closer to him to drink water, and he seemed like he was ready to lean forward and grab one before freezing in place. "I...wait. I can't hug them while wearing this armor..." he muttered. He looked like a cat left out in the rain, staring at the rather sharp spikes jutting out of his drachen mail chestplate. "Well, I could always help you take it off, if you so pleased," Haurchefant said with a teasing smile. Yves perked up immediately, swiveling towards him with an expectant look. "You would?" Oh Fury, I did not mean for him to take that seriously. "I, o-of course! A knight lives to serve, after all." This confirmed it—he had perished and was somehow ushered into Halone's halls. The image of the man he was smitten with undressing in a chocobo stable did not show up in any sermons or his readings of the Enchiridion, but Haurchefant supposed that the Fury could work in mysterious ways.
