Instead of working to lift people out of poverty, our leaders are following the lead of President Donald Trump and making things worse.

So where are you going on your next vacation? The choice looks to be Moscow in the winter or Paris in the spring.

From Timothy Snyder:
"The United States cannot deal with adversaries without qualified civil servants in the departments of government that deal with money, weapons, and intelligence. All of these are being gutted and/or run by people who lack anything vaguely resembling competence."

One thing Democratic leadership could do right now is to name an alternate HHS secretary--someone to provide ongoing public updates and health information. And do it for other departments too. Start showing voters what a Democratic government would look like--press conferences, speeches, all of it.

When is the best time to engage for the next election coming up? And a related question. When is the best time to try and convince the undecided how to vote in the next election?

Black History Month has taken a blow from Trump. It will not change the need for it, but it will change its visibility. It is now going to tell the story of "black American patriots." Can you guess whose stories will NOT be told? medium.com/@sojneighbor...

Tim Miller's the Bulwark Podcast on Dec 20 2024 had Jon Favreau as guest. It was an hour of a beautiful dance between a once and future conservative, never-trumper and a once and forever Obama acolyte, progressive.

Jon Favreau: Funny and Horrible
While it's still going to be bad, for the first time since the election we're beginning to see that we may actually have a little fun watching these idiots prove they don't know how to govern.

If we weren't at such a weird moment in history, the collapse of Assad's regime would be widely understood as a huge success for the Biden administration, which pursued sanctions on Russia and Iran as well as Syria, armed Ukraine and thus weakened Russia, and supported Syrian democrats and activists

I'm trying to put my finger on what's happening with this great capitulation to Trump -- ABC News, Chris Wray, the Democrats signing up to work with DOGE, Mark Benioff, etc. It's like you can feel the air going out of an entire social order.

Obama's brand of technocratic liberalism was fundamentally inadequate to the historical moment in which he was elected, and his eight years in office ended with the rise of the MAGA Right.

His speech yesterday in Chicago showed that he's learned nothing from the experience.

My latest for MSNBC:
Opinion | Obama still doesn’t get why Trump won. That’s the problem.
The 44th president's message at his democracy forum was just his same old brand of centrism, which is unsuited to the current populist era.

Still reading Adam Johnson's 'Fortune Smiles.' His story 'Dark Meadow' treads the very thin and quivery line that a reformed, but still haunted pedophile walks between his desires and his resolve. It could as well relate to any sort of addiction.

I just added my thoughts regarding the (hopefully temporary) demise of #DEI and along with thoughts on the branding problem this will cause the #MAGA crowd. The usual antonyms for #diversity, equity, and inclusion come across as mildly to acidly negative.
