Sogorea Te’ Land Trust is an urban Indigenous women-led land trust that facilitates the return of Indigenous land to Indigenous people.
Soko:te (California Bay Laurel) is providing us with its fruit this time of year! Ohlone people have harvested Bay Nuts for thousands of years and our team spent the day gathering and processing them. When roasted, the flavor resembles coffee and is also a natural source of energy.

This national day of mourning, aka “thanksgiving,” learn about the history of the land you are on, the relationship of your own family line to stolen land, and consider what you can do to redistribute resources.

Showy Milkweed has definitely been SHOWING OUT on our Land sites!

Native to the western part of Turtle Island, this gorgeous perennial is food and habitat for monarch butterflies and has also been used by Indigenous people as fiber for ropes, basketry and nets, among other things.

Mitiini Numma youth participated in a fire workshop where they learned how to use a bow drill and other methods of making fire!

As Indigenous people, we value our sacred relationship to fire and are thrilled to be able to pass these teachings on to our young people.

✨Languages of the Land✨

This map shows eight different Indigenous Language groups of the greater Bay Area.

While all the language groups shown are often called “Ohlone,” the languages and their people also have their own names for themselves.
