"So pre-story Yuel and phoenix are in yuris together (Yuel is God of Fate, phoenix we're thinking God of Balance maybe and/or Syzygy) I still need to work out their background. SOMETHING nearly kills the phoenix (I haven't decided what this thing is yet) and in order to try and save her she combines her anima (soul in bargverse) w/ the broken anima of someone recently deceased (past life Ambrose, aka one that Rein accidentally kills and eats when they're kids lol). Ambrose was not supposed to reincarnate had Yuel not done this (because his soul was fucked at those tend to just get shot into Obscura aka limbo) but basically this was more of an attempt by Yuel to save her gf than anything about saving a human's soul. 100 years later is when NG+ Ambrose is reincarnated (present bargverse store) but he's now hosting dormant soul of phoenix too which Yuel is hoping will allow her to recover and survive. Ambrose is able to use some of her abilities throughout the story (it's also why his phoenix form, and later his corrupted form reflect a lot of design aspects of her - I'm kind of working backwards here on her design tho since those designs came first HAHA) From Rein's POV she's wanting to figure out a way to repair Ambrose's anima, is aware something is off (especially knowing he wasn't supposed to reincarnate) but I don't think knows what is going on beyond that. If phoenix's soul gets fully restored then I think the understanding is that she'd acquire the new host body, which Yuel is aware of but Rein is not. Erebos is allowing Yuel's rule breaking to slide more as a test for Rein and her abilities (and her potential to possibly repair severely damaged anima, something that even Erebos cannot do) - but Yuel cannot physically intervene/help on this adventure. Spoiler tho I do think ultimately when phoenix does get restored I feel like she'd still sacrifice herself again to allow Ambrose to continue living (even if Yuel thinks they're above mortals)."
