Ellen Arkbro "For Organ and Brass"

The début album and its title track by this Swedish musician and composer opts to create expansive soundscapes using lesser used traditional instrumentation, and for me is a relatively new listening experience.

The VSS "Nervous Circuits"

A continuation from yesterday's post about Uncanny Valley, the closing title track of this 1997 synth-colorred "post-hardcore" album gets explored — one that is a cornerstone album for my own timeline.

A late 90s, cult, synth-inflected post-hardcore classic, the closing title track of The VSS's one and only LP gets taken up with a unique angle here.

Uncanny Valley "Seeds"

Having had many interactions with members of this band over the years, we look at a track from an underrated post-industrial album, "Ugashia" by Uncanny Valley, as well as group before that, Noi Kabát.

Today marks six years since the release of the 2019 album WHEN PUSH COMES TO SHOVE, which I realised the anniversary of was today, being in southern France at the moment mixing the new album. Some thoughts were written about it in chunks recently:

There's been little hints dropped here and there recently, but a new album is finishing up. Tomorrow I head off to southern France for a week to do the final mixing on the record.

Owen and I will be digging deep into it in his studio in the French countryside.

Luke Requena "A Picnic With Ancestors"

A great track by this Vancouver-based synth alchemist (and a friend of mine from back in the day) from his latest album Myth And Murmur — one full of lush, electronic kosmische soundscapes.

The For Carnation "Tales (Live From The Crypt)"

A dark, psychedelic cosmic burner that “out-goths” a lot of goth music out there, courtesy of one of the many projects that emerged out of the ashes of the seminal midwest US post-hardcore group Slint.

Back in Glasgow after a week in Austria and Hungary playing some absolutely grand shows. It was a fun time, great energy and a chance to check out the sites, see some great friends and to perform the songs live.

The next show will be in London at Aces & Eights on the 27th September.

Moral Support "Living With Passion"

A slower-paced disco “chugger” by the Canadian electronic production duo Moral Support, who like a number of other similar Canadian electronic artists of the time were making more of a splash with Hi-ENG and minimal synth tracks over in Europe.

Yesterday's live, on-air set done for Glasgow’s Radio Buena Vida which coincided with my very own birthday. This mix starts out on the more electronic and minimal end of the spectrum and crosses over into more guitar-based and noisier sounds in the second half.
