So I saw the ATC control screen yesterday. The plane and helicopter essentially hit head on. The jet probably couldn't see the helicopter and they're in a very low energy state. The wouldn't be able to move out of the way. On the other hand, I don't see how the helicopter didn't see the jet.

This was a systems engineering issue at both a macroscopic and microscopic issue. A lot can be done at both levels to prevent the reoccurrence. It's also why I'd rather drive myself than fly. I don't trust others I don't know with my safety.

Both were traveling probably 150 mph at courses roughly perpendicular to each other. I think if you actually tried to hit the plane with the helicopter, it would have been virtually impossible. With night vision glasses, the helicopter pilots essentially could only see straight ahead.
