You need to clarify that this artist's post was just a reaction to your article! Not evidence of anything. They have clarified in a comment that they have no idea about current conditions and left 2 years ago, unrelated to AI.

This is just a circlejerk.

Sounds like you misrepresented Swen imo. He said they were experimenting with it to keep up with the state of the art, only using it for placehder stuff in the end. No job losses or even complaints?

That's a far cry from your claim that he is "pushing hard on gen AI despite internal pushback"

Neither of us know what tool they used. It could be anything because the AI label is so overused at this point. If skyrim released today, their lip sync generation would be labelled AI. *Even if* it's trained AI generation, there are open source options that you train purely with your own assets.

There are countless issues with AI "art" but this is unrelated imo. Tell me the difference between this and Skryim's lip sync? Neither is hand animated. I really doubt this animation needed stolen training data or much power.

Saying wc3 was better animated is absurd. You could say charmingly janky

I would oppose actual AI art assets in the game but I'm struggling to understand all the complaints about this. What's the real difference between this and games doing automatic lip syncs for the last two decades?

If it's just an animation quality issue, should WC3 have static portraits?

That was a brief proof of concept they showed ages ago, but it seems they chose not to pursue it (thankfully) because there's been no mention of it in the past year

It's not LLM artwork. It's "AI" animations for the tiny portraits during dialogue. What makes it unacceptable compared to older tech like skyrim's automatic lip sync?
