📝 A study co-authored by Fanqi Zeng finds that surveillance cameras affect how safe Chinese citizens feel - but not equally.

More spending on cameras boosts locals’ sense of safety, while migrants feel safer only when strong social ties are present.

Women are 19% less likely to use the internet and 8% less likely to own a mobile phone than men.

That’s 320 million fewer women online and 190 million fewer with phones globally 🌍
Quote from Ridhi Kashyap: "This paper underscores the importance of sub-national data for a more complete understanding of inequality in digital adoption, especially in countries with the lowest overall levels of human development. Our estimates provide a valuable lens for researchers and policymakers through which to assess areas that stand to benefit from the increasing rollout of digital programmes within global development policies, as well as those at risk of being left behind."

📝💡 New research by Prof @manyeekan.bsky.social & Dr @gczching.bsky.social finds that teenage girls spend more time on domestic work than boys - with the largest gender gaps found in Western societies, though still pronounced in East Asia.

2. Religion loses personal importance
3. They drop religious identity
