Economists have basically the same methods training I received, just better PR. I’m representing a sociological perspective, which I think is broader and more interesting than Econ. I still go to the sociology professional meetings and maintain some of my grad school connections.

That’s me! I’ve always worked outside academia. I have a PhD in Sociology and still identify as a Sociologist.

Got ya! I am curious - why are you compelled to identify as a “sociologist”? I know folks wirh end stage economic degrees identify as economist outside of the academy. I wish more of us would. What factors led you to continuing identifying as a professional sociologist?

Central issue that ticks me off. Why there is a need to mark professional sociologists from sociology-doers. The media cannot tell the difference too many times z

solo, first, collab:
3,2,1 before tenure
1,1,2 after tenure

- bf tenure collabs of 3+ just do not weigh for making the case of independence
-af tenure collabs 3+ et al indicate success in training students
-bf favor solo to show independence, first to show leadership
-af, solo/1st swap as prefer

@sociological.bsky.social, I assume the answers will be outstanding, and go beyond where the body of research is already.

It’s been tough, to the say the least. I think there is male and international bias in who uses the #socsky. Lot of those are not sociologists, even they admit. In Europe. #soc stands for “social” not “sociology”.

I have tried to dock more variation on the @sociological.bsky.sociology feed.

Yeah, I noticed the slant as well, likely bc those were early users. As such, I’ve intentionally tried to find folks from other communities. Not easy. using the longer ties of #sociologysky and #sociologicalsky could help, since #socsky picks up a lot of social scientists who are not sociologists
