Just like with Iraq, the majority of Democratic elected officials are likely to fall in line. The Dems overwhelmingly supported the invasion of Iraq under George W. Bush. Chuck Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries, leading Dems in Congress, are just as loyal to Netanyahu’s warmongering campaign as Trump is.

The trillions of dollars spent on war should be spent on healthcare, education, and a green union jobs program to build public, affordable housing and transportation. We need to escalate the anti-war movement. This should include mass protests, civil disobedience and workers’ action such as strikes.

These protests should be used to build for national strike action. We've done it before. In 2006 on what became known as “Day Without An Immigrant,” millions of workers—both immigrant and native-born—took to the streets instead of going to work and successfully stopped a bill from passing.

50501 has also called a national day of action on June 14, which if explicitly turned into anti-deportation protests with clear demands and a fighting strategy, could be a mass event of millions connecting with the labor movement to escalate to strikes and walkouts.

SEIU should go out again, this time in all workplaces in LA county, to demand shutting down Operation At Large, ending deportations, freeing Huerta and all arrested protesters, and to kick out the Guard.

We need to build these actions into a mass working-class movement that uses protests and strike action to stop Trump's mass deportations and to go on the offensive to fight for more. In April, 50,000 city workers in David Huerta’s SEIU went on a one-day strike as part of a contract fight.
